20. What History Teaches Us?
The question is: Why we study HISTORY? Perhaps, Historians and Archeologists get fascinated by great kings, their way of livings, their glory, their Might to conquer and ability to rule over people. Or perhaps Archeologists and Historians are in search of secrets behind success of great rulers so that they can unveil hidden powers to attain the same status. Well, the second reasons sounds familiar or I should say Deja Vu. Yes, you are right. This is what Hollywood is showing us for decades. But one thing everyone will accept is that history is flooded with Bloody Battles. And these battles have major impact on the evolution of current Social Structure and Cultural Growth. Inspite of that one aspect is still untouched and that is very basic psychology of human race. We have not learnt from history, we just have grasped those outcomes from pages of history that do exist in us but we will never agree.
Battles in history have countable reasons behind them. Like, Greed (Invasions on India by Alexander, Mohammad Gauri, Babar, Ahmed Shah Abdali), conquering and ruling i.e. expansion of empire (Asoka, Alexander, Imperialism, Mughal Empire, Adolf Hitler), jealously (There can be many examples) etc. And if we compare with modern times, we will find these traits still present in human minds. And every one is determined to decimate other, no matter what, since one is driven by all the above features embedded deeply in human psychology. We have made every in Real Time Space as Battle Field. The reason we won’t see such Battle Fields is that we don’t want to agree or realize that they exist. But a deep introspection will surely reflect upon so many opened fronts like that.
If we turn more pages, we find names like King Puru, Prithvi Raj Chauhan, Maharana Pratap, Chatarpati Shivaji, Guru Gobind Singh Ji who fought against those who were determined to ruin a culture, a social structure and a country. Guru Gobind Singh Ji has said following in Zafarnama (Letter of Victory) to Aurangzeb:
“It is justified to grab sword against Tyranny. It is the lost resort to stop the brutality when it is not stopping on requests.”
But unfortunately we fight not to stop it but we get indulged in it. I will just like to add following in the end:
“History Teaches Us That Those Who Fight For Themselves Get Perished, But Those Who Fight For Others Become Imperishable.”
