Baani Kabir Ji Ki

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਜੀਉ ਕਾ  ਏਕੁ ਸੁਆਨੁ ਕੈ ਘਰਿ ਗਾਵਣਾ

ਐਸਾ ਤੈਂ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥ ਕੈਸੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਬ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ 
ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਛੋਡਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਸ ਇਤੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਮਰਣਾ 
ਰਮਈਆ ਜਪਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਅਨਤ ਜੀਵਣ ਬਾਣੀ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਣਾ ੨॥
ਜਾਂ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਉ ॥ ਭਰਮੁ ਭੁਲਾਵਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ 
ਉਪਜੈ ਸਹਜੁ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤਿ ਜਾਗੈ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ੩॥
ਇਤੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਰਣਾ ॥ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਤਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਮਿਲਣਾ ੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ

सिरीरागु कबीर जीउ का  एकु सुआनु कै घरि गावणा
जननी जानत सुतु बडा होतु है इतना कु  जानै जि दिन दिन अवध घटतु है 
मोर मोर करि अधिक लाडु धरि पेखत ही जमराउ हसै ॥१॥
ऐसा तैं जगु भरमि लाइआ ॥ कैसे बूझै जब मोहिआ है माइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ 
कहत कबीर छोडि बिखिआ रस इतु संगति निहचउ मरणा रमईआ जपहु प्राणी अनत जीवण बाणी इन बिधि भव सागरु तरणा ॥२॥
जां तिसु भावै ता लागै भाउ ॥ भरमु भुलावा विचहु जाइ ॥
उपजै सहजु गिआन मति जागै ॥ गुर प्रसादि अंतरि लिव लागै ॥३॥
इतु संगति नाही मरणा ॥ हुकमु पछाणि ता खसमै मिलणा ॥१॥ रहाउ दूजा ॥

Summary


In above ‘Shabad’, Kabeer Ji conveys his message by two analogies which humans have been observing since their existence:


·         ‘The Death’ which common people fear to talk about.
·         Love of Mother for her child which is considered unconditional.


These two analogies are part of human behavior at every stage of human evolution. These analogies also hint at that, ‘The Baani’ compiled in Dhan Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji is/will be true in every age and ‘The Baani’ could be understood with ease by anyone since such aspects associated with human will be encountered by every generation of human beings.

Death is inevitable and the biggest fear being induced in the human mind. No matter how hard a man tries he cannot escape his ends. He may live longer and longer, but eventually the human body will decay and physical will surely end. This is even true for ‘Incarnations’. No physical form can live forever. So, Kabeer Ji seems to have picked up the example of ‘Death’, not exploiting the fear, but using it to warn people for giving up malpractices.

Kabeer Ji is giving us message that death will surely come and to those who have been engaged in pleasure of corruption. Such pleasures are just futile. No matter how much an individual ignore ‘Death', no matter how much pleasures make an individual believe that he will continue to enjoy forever, Death will surely grasp him. Like a mother who feels happy to see her son grow but does not pay attention to fact that every breath of her son taking him near to his death. And such ignorance of her is being laughed at by ‘Messenger of Death’.

Mother is engrossed in the ‘Attachment’ of her son and Kabeer Ji considers such attachment as corruption. This being signified by the usage of words ‘ਮੋਰ ਮੋਰ मोर मोर, Mine-Mine’ a kind of ‘Corruption’ as this is not selflessness; some may call it extreme so soften the stance even mother love is not a full proof practice to save from ‘Death’. So just consider, motherhood is believed to be the purest than any other human action. But it is not competent to save child from jaws of Death; any other human actions can surely not help, as all other actions will either lay at par with it or less as per the purity content except ‘Meditating on Name of The One’.

Also, in general Kabeer Ji is telling us, as humans we believe to be engaged in many creative things. We should always remember that whatever exists in physical form will some day cease to exist. The world is ephemeral. So one should not get attached to it i.e. one should keep himself detached from ‘Fruits of Action’

This is so ironical, that humans are always eager to find and establish facts but one fact ‘The End’ is always ignored. Is this some kind of delusion? What is making humans to ignore it? And then Kabeer Ji says, ‘The One’ has led everyone to doubt, but why he does not answer here. He further says that ‘Maya’ has gripped the mankind so the humans are not able to understand ‘The One’ and HUS ways.

So, does it mean there is no escape from ‘Death’? Even if we accept it still we cannot overcome it and we all are bound to die. This sounds distressing but Kabeer Ji says one can overcome all the pains, miseries, doubts, ignorance, pains, troubles, corruption, evil and fears by ‘Meditating on Name of One’. Any human can overcome the ‘Ocean of World’ by ‘His Baani’.

As per Kabeer Ji, it is of utmost importance to embrace ‘His Love’, since only that can dispel the doubts and delusions from within. Though, His Love is omnipresent then why only few can feel it. Why not everyone could perceive and comprehend it? This question is very apt since people driven by rationality just discards the ‘Love for The One’ as it is not tangible. Does it mean love of ‘The One’ is not real? Well, Kabeer Ji says that if it pleases ‘Him’ people will embrace His Love. And then all the doubts and delusion will disperse.

When delusion disappears it brings other gifts with it like intuitive consciousness is awakened and by ‘Grace of Guru’ an individual starts introspection. Such actions and in such company of ‘Meditating on Name of The One’ an individual never dies. Then he will come to know about ‘The Will’ of ‘The One’ and will finally meet ‘The One’.

So in summary, Kabeer Ji asking everyone to give up corruption no matter how pleasurable it sounds, as no human action has the purity to salvage him from Messenger of Death. Only attaching and meditating on The Naam of The Lord can save an individual from Death.
